Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Leader: Peggy Schreader

A lay Catholic organization whose mission is to live the Gospel message by serving Christ through the poor with love, respect, justice and joy.

We are volunteers with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, an organization that has, for over 170 years, been assisting those in need.

We are members of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church parish. Our Christian faith and beliefs call us to serve God by serving those in need. The material assistance we are able to provide during our in-home or virtual visits is due to the generosity of our parishioners. We are not a government service and do not receive any government funding for this purpose.

Many of our parishioners drop toonies and loonies or bills into a Society of St. Vincent de Paul collection box close to the exits of the church after mass. They trust the Society and its volunteers to use those funds to assist those who are most in need, regardless of that person's religion or race. When a person calls us for assistance, we visit that person in their home to find out how we can best help them, generally on an emergency, short-term basis. In some cases it may be with food or clothing vouchers. In all cases we bring compassion, respect and hope.

If you require assistance, please call the parish office (905.820.1444), follow the instructions and leave a message for one of the Society volunteers. If you would like to assist us financially, please visit our website at the SSVP-affiliated weblink https://Canadahelps.org/en/dn/53987
