Welcome Back!
We are happy to welcome you back into the church this weekend following the completion of our Sanctuary renovation/ Church and Foyer flooring replacement project! We will still be working on tiling the hall foyer area this coming week.
Special thanks to contractor Greg Quiaoit and his team of workers from GQ Home Improvement who did a great job on this project. We are grateful to the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board for the use of the St. Kateri Centre cafetorium over the last eight weeks. Thanks also to caretaker Chico Bolivar for his work in helping to keep the hall and offices dust free, and to the wonderful group of parishioners who installed rubber pew bumpers last Saturday and those who cleaned the church pews and replaced the music hymnals this weekend to prepare the church for our return…we have a great team of volunteers!
In the final phase of the project, we will be adjusting the sound system and installing acoustical panels on the back wall of the church to absorb the extra resonance in the church due to the removal of the carpets…we ask you patience during this process.
We are happy also to resume the livestreaming of our Sunday 9:00 a.m. mass for those who are homebound or too ill to attend Sunday mass…please visit our parish website for the link.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Begins!
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) for adults who would like to become Roman Catholic will begin this week! If you or a loved one would like to consider becoming a Roman Catholic, please have them speak to Fr. Alex or Fr. Tim after mass or by e-mail/telephone to arrange for an interview.
Stewardship Sunday in the Archdiocese of Toronto
Archbishop Francis Leo has asked that his homily for Stewardship Sunday be shared across the Archdiocese on the weekend of the 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time September 23/24. We will be delivering his words in the homily time at each mass that weekend as we reflect on our own stewardship of the gifts that the Lord entrusts to us.
I ask you to pray and ponder how you might exercise Stewardship right here in our parish by thinking of one or two ministries that you might wish to join…as we look towards our Coffee Sunday and mini–Ministry Fair on the weekend of October 14/15…. more to follow!
Needs of the Church in Canada Special Collection: September 23-24
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) is involved in national and international areas of pastoral activity, including social justice, ecumenical and interfaith relations, collaboration with Aboriginal Peoples, life and family issues, liturgy, catechesis, doctrine and relations with Catholic associations and movement. Each year, the CCCB is asked to speak out, show leadership or provide guidelines for the faithful on a wide variety of topics.
For our bishops to be able to make proper judgements on modern topics, they must have the benefit of research, expert advice and capable administration which is also funded by this collection. In addition to contributions, we are also asked to pray for the bishops’ work and to participate in and cooperate with the various projects of the CCCB.
World Day of Migrants and Refugees: Sunday September 24
The theme announced by His Holiness Pope Francis for the 109th World Day of Migrants and Refugees is “Free to Choose Whether to Migrate or to Stay.” In his message, Pope Francis acknowledges that while the decision to migrate should always be free, in many cases it is not. This point was reflected by St. John Paul II in his message for the 90th World Day of Migrants & Refugees, in which he wrote, “building conditions of peace means in practice being seriously committed to safeguarding first of all the right not to emigrate, that is, the right to live in peace and dignity in one's own country.” As he concluded his message, Pope Francis referenced the words of the Lord when He said “…I was a stranger, and you welcomed me” reminding us that the Lord’s words are a “constant admonition to see in the migrant not simply a brother or sister in difficulty, but Christ himself, who knocks at our door.”

Solemnity of St. Michael and Conferral of the Pallium upon Archbishop Francis LeoThe Archdiocese of Toronto celebrates the feast day of our archdiocesan patron, St. Michael, on
Friday, September 29, 2023. All are welcome to join in a special celebration on that day at 5:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica (65 Bond St.). Archbishop Francis Leo will celebrate Mass, with music from the world-renowned St. Michael’s Choir School. As part of the celebration, the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, the Most Rev. Ivan Jurkovič will confer the pallium on our archbishop, a symbol of his role as Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto and shepherd to the faithful.
Following Mass there will be an informal reception with light refreshments in the St. Michael’s Cathedral atrium and courtyard. Seating will be first come, first served. All are welcome to join in this special celebration for our archdiocese and archbishop!
In addition, as requested by Archbishop Leo, all parishes will participate in a Novena to St. Michael the Archangel from Wednesday September 20 to Thursday September 28.
UTM Catholic Chaplaincy Update
If you or someone you know is a university student, then this announcement is for you! The UTM (University of Toronto Mississauga) Catholic Chaplaincy exists to provide a supportive community for students to learn, grow, and celebrate their Catholic faith. Whether you are at UTM student or a Sheridan College Mississauga campus student we invite you join our community. Our chaplaincy is working hard this fall to plan in-person gatherings as well as weekly Tuesday 12:10 p.m. campus masses in the student centre. Catholic Women’s League of Canada General Meeting Tuesday September 19
Now that it is September, the CWL general meetings are resuming after the summer break. The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 19 in the parish hall. This month we will have a presentation by Philip Benjamin, Ontario Regional Manager of Prison Fellowship, Canada. We will begin with a short business meeting at 6:30pm followed by refreshments and then Philip’s presentation at 7:30 p.m. All women – age 16 and up are welcome.
SSVP Bundle Up Sunday September 23/24
The SSVP container will be in the front parking lot to accept your donations of all clothing (any condition), all footwear (any condition), bedding (any condition), drapery/towels and NEW toys on the weekend of September 23/24.
The SSVP cannot accept baby items of any kind including cribs, car seats, strollers, construction materials, dishes, furniture, or books/video/ audio cassettes.
SSVP Volunteers will be happy to help you place your donations into the container after all the masses.
Bible Study
We will be having our registration evening for our next 5-week bible study from Ascension Press entitled A Biblical Walk Through the Mass on Wednesday September 27, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the front foyer (not the parish hall).
The Mass is nothing short of amazing. Through it, we encounter God in the most intimate way possible as we hear him speak to us in the Liturgy of the Word and as we receive him Body and Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist. Registration is $40 per person and materials will be provided. This study will take place in the parish hall beginning Thursday October 19 and ending on Thursday November 16 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Respect for Life Sunday October 1
The Knights of Columbus will be distributing fabric lapel Roses for Life on the weekend of
September 23/24 in advance of Respect Life Sunday.
On Respect Life Sunday, the annual national Life Chain will also be taking place, in front of parishes and at key intersections in Mississauga & Brampton uniting with 300 sites across Canada to pray for our pre-born children, elderly and infirm.
Here at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, we will stand vigil along Burnhamthorpe Rd. West in front of the church after the Noon mass on Sunday October 1 between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. For more information, go to the Right to Life Mississauga and Area website: www.righttolifemb.com/life-chain/ .
40 Days for Life
40 Days for Life Fall Campaign will take place from September 27 to November 5, each day from 7:00am-7:00pm. We encourage our parishioners to take part by committing to an hour to stand vigil in prayer near the Mississauga Women’s Centre at 101 Queensway. First Reconciliation/First Communion Registration Meetings
Parents and Guardians of Grade 2 children are invited to a Registration Meeting for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion on either Tuesday October 3 or Wednesday October 4 from 6:30 p.m. here in the church.
If your child has not received registration materials electronically through one of our three parish schools, materials may be picked up from the parish office, or found through the parish website under “Parish Life”, then “Sacramental Preparation”.
EDGE Begins again on Friday October 13
Our EDGE Youth Ministry begins again this year on Friday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall for our young people in grades 6, 7 and 8! This experience is a dynamic, fun, and exciting opportunity to make the Catholic faith and everyday life come together in a way that you haven’t thought of before!
Through EDGE Social and Issue Nights, through Scripture, talks, videos and games, we discuss interesting and important topics that affect our life and our faith journey.
From October 2023 to May 2024 (except during the Christmas break), the program runs on every 2nd and 4th Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the parish hall.
Interested!! Then please join us for the first EDGE Night on October 13 at 7:00 p.m. The cost is $20 including materials and refreshments.
