From the Desk of Fr Tim…

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On Thursday, September 30, 2021, across the country, Canadians will be observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The ongoing journey to healing and reconciliation has a particular relevance for Catholics throughout Canada given the church’s involvement in operating many residential schools and recognizing the suffering and intergenerational trauma that remains for many survivors to this day. This day provides an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools and commit to working for truth and reconciliation in the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. All are welcome to join Cardinal Thomas Collins for a virtual prayer service on September 30 at 10:00 a.m. through the St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica livestream at: https://www.stmichaelscathedral.com/live/. In addition, spiritual and educational resources relating to Indigenous Healing & Reconciliation accessed here: www.archtoronto.org/healingandreconciliation .

Capacity Limits - Church and Hall- Sunday 10:30 a.m. and Noon Masses

For the past few weeks, we have been at capacity in both the church (approximately 110 people) and parish hall (60 people) at both the Sunday 10:30 a.m. and Noon masses. To avoid disappointment, it might be best to try to come at one of the other masses: Saturday 5:00 p.m. or Sunday 7:45 a.m. or Sunday 9:00 a.m. Thank you for your co-operation…it is great to see more of you back at Mass!

Stewardship Sunday -Archdiocese of Toronto

Last Sunday September 19, we celebrated Stewardship Sunday in the Archdiocese. Copies of Cardinal Collins’ Pastoral Letter on Stewardship are still available for pick up in the foyer of the church, and I include here an excerpt of his homily:

We need to have within our hearts the spirit of stewardship. We are servants, only servants. We are entrusted by the Lord with many treasures, and He asks us to make them fruitful in this life, whatever they may be (each one of us with very different gifts as St Paul says). Instead of saying, “How am I going to take this or that to get to the top?” We should say, “How can I make use, fruitfully, creatively, of the gifts the Lord has given to me?” Not to push myself ahead of the other, being the first one as the Apostles were trying to do, but how can I make use of whatever gifts the Lord has given to me.

For access to the complete homily, as well as the Pastoral Letter on Stewardship please visit:

Thanks to all those who continue to exercise stewardship of time and talent through their ministries here at the church and the in the local community, and the stewardship of treasure through your continued support of ShareLife, our St. Vincent de Paul Society, and through your financial support of our parish!

ShareLife 2021: Will you help us reach our ShareLife campaign goal?

We have currently raised  $190,925.07 toward our parish goal of $234,600.

“Our goal can be met, but only with your help. I invite you to join today's generation of heroes by making a sacrificial gift to ShareLife. As you contemplate the blessings God has entrusted to you, please join me in giving to ShareLife to the best of your ability.” – Cardinal Thomas Collins

It is important we meet our goal on behalf of those served by ShareLife agencies. These agencies experienced increased demand for their services since the pandemic began. They could not have continued their important work without our support. As we all continue to recover from the pandemic, please keep these agencies and their clients they lovingly care for in your prayers.

We invited all parishioners to make a sacrificial gift to ShareLife to the best of your ability. If you have already donated this year, we’re very grateful for your generosity.

You can make your donation online via the parish website [if applicable] or at sharelife.org. Monthly Pre-Authorized Giving is a convenient way to spread your ShareLife contribution throughout the year. You can learn more about PAG at sharelife.org. Thank you again for “living the Gospel” by supporting ShareLife.

October 3 is the next ShareLife Sunday. Please give generously during the special collection or anytime at www.sharelife.org.

Your Financial Support is Appreciated
Thank you once again for your generosity and support of our parish community and ShareLife as we return to church. Kindly place your envelope in the offertory basket before mass or mail in your donations, or donate via Pre-Authorized Giving (PAG forms available through parish website) or by credit card, or single or monthly donations through the “Donate now” button (at www.archtoronto.org or through our new website www.stignatiusloyolami.archtoronto.org.
