New Pastor Appointed/Retirement of Parish Secretary

Last weekend I announced that I have been appointed as the new pastor of St. Clement Parish in Etobicoke by Archbishop Leo effective June 26, 2024. While I will be sad to leave this vibrant and active parish after 11 years as your pastor, I am happy to announce that your new pastor will be Fr. Edward Curtis, and that Fr. Alex D’Silva will be remaining as his associate pastor.

Fr. Curtis is no stranger to Mississauga, having begun his priestly ministry as associate pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish in Mississauga before being asked to work with Cardinal Collins in various roles.  He is currently the Chancellor of Spiritual Affairs for the Archdiocese of Toronto.

I also wish to announce the retirement of Olga Calderon, our parish secretary, effective in mid-June 2024.  We thank Olga for her dedication and excellent work in this position for the past two and a half years and wish her well in her upcoming retirement.

We will have a chance to bid farewell to Fr. Tim and Olga on the weekend of June 22/23 after each mass with a reception in the parish hall.   Please circle this date on your calendar and plan to attend!

In the meantime, we are looking for a new full-time parish secretary/receptionist to provide a welcoming environment for those who visit or contact our parish community, as well as being responsible for all administrative and confidential functions relating to the parish office.  The job posting can be found on our parish website and also Archdiocese of Toronto - Employment Opportunities (archtoronto.org)and the deadline for application is Tuesday April 30.

Easter Thank You!

There were many individuals and groups who were involved in the celebration of Lent and Holy Week 2024. We would like to thank all of them on behalf of the whole St. Ignatius Loyola parish community.

For the Art and Environment… which created a beautiful atmosphere of prayer and Easter joy by the wonderful members of the Yvette Mondragon and the Floral Committee and Lynn Alp and the Altar Guild.

For the Hospitality Committee…both women and men who cheerfully greeted and welcomed you under the direction of Caroline Borcsok.

For our Ministers of the Word…organized by Maureen Kelly, the Ministers of the Eucharist arranged by Audrey D’Souza…and Jacqueline Mullan who coordinated the Altar Servers.

For the Music Ministry…and their talented gifts of prayerful song during Lent and throughout Holy Week and Easter, especially Melodie Austria, Natalie Cabri, Ed Cyfko, Claudia Ferro, Myah Gormley, Cheryl Hodges, Megan Miceli, Sarah Thusiar, and Christine Wall.

For the donations of potted flowers and plants…from our parishioners which made the Sanctuary reflect the glorious Feast of the Lord’s Resurrection.

First Communion 2024

ShareLife 2024: Through ShareLife, you help refugees find safety and freedom

Your generous gift to ShareLife is crucial for immigrants and refugees establishing a new life in Canada. Your love and support have not only provided them with safety and freedom but have also given them the opportunity to create a brighter future in our community.

We thank you for your extraordinary support of ShareLife in 2023 and would like each family to consider an Easter donation to ShareLife 2024.  Our parish campaign goal this year is $254,000 and to date we have raised $80,300.    Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at https://sharelife.org/ .

Catholic Women’s League

The next CWL General Meeting is Tuesday April 16, beginning with the Rosary in the church at 6.30 p.m. followed by the meeting in the hall at 7.00 p.m.  All women in the parish ages 16 and up are welcome especially new members!

This month, our CWL sister, Anne Hales from Queen of Apostles Renewal Centre, will provide a mini retreat experience. The theme is: “A time with Mary, Mother of Jesus.” Mother Mary is a wonderful model for us. How can we respond to the call from God. He speaks, we listen. He knocks, we open the door to our hearts. He reaches out to us, we take him in.  Are we willing to dedicate ourselves to the hidden work God wants to do in saying “yes” as Mary did?
