From the Desk of Fr. Tim…

Humanitarian Relief:  Morocco

As announced last weekend the Archdiocese of Toronto is accepting donations for those affected by the earthquake in Morocco through our Catholic partners in Morocco…please use the yellow Humanitarian Relief envelopes at the doors of the church for this purpose and mark them Morocco Relief.

Humanitarian Relief:  Libya

Currently our Catholic partners are not present in Libya to co-ordinate relief efforts there and are unable to accept donations to aid those affected by the flooding at this time. For those wishing to support the people of Libya we ask that you consider a donation through the Canadian Red Cross at www.redcross.ca

Special Collection:  Indigenous Healing and Reconciliation

This weekend Deacon John will begin each mass with a Smudging Ceremony and will preach on ongoing efforts of the church towards healing and reconciliation. The Archdiocese of Toronto has made a commitment to provide funds in support of programs and initiatives that respond to the various needs that exist among Indigenous Peoples both locally and throughout the country.

The Indigenous Healing & Reconciliation fund is part of a national effort announced by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. To date, the fund has raised close to 40 percent of the $30 million target as pledged by the Canadian bishops. The archdiocese will contribute $6 million towards the national pledge. The collection on September 30/October 1 provides an opportunity for the faithful to contribute to this important initiative. For more information or to donate online please visit: www.archtoronto.org/healingandreconciliation . Thank you for your generosity!

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul “Bundle Sunday” Thank You!

A sincere Thank You to everyone who was able to donate their gently used clothing and household items to last weekends “Bundle Sunday”.  The large container was almost full, and all your donations will help to take care of our neighbours in need.

Please remember the poor boxes located in the front and hall foyers. Grey donation envelopes are also available on top of the boxes should you wish to receive a tax receipt. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Bible Study

We will be having our registration evening for our next 5-week bible study from Ascension Press entitled A Biblical Walk Through the Mass tonight, Wednesday September 27, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the front foyer (not hall).

The Mass is nothing short of amazing. Through it, we encounter God in the most intimate way possible as we hear him speak to us in the Liturgy of the Word and as we receive him Body and Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist.  The words, the gestures, and the rituals of the Mass are rich in meaning. Everything we say and do in the Liturgy is steeped in biblical language. A Biblical Walk Through the Mass explores the extraordinary biblical roots of the Liturgy and reveals what it all means and why it all matters. This fascinating tour of the Mass will renew your faith and deepen your love for and devotion to the Holy Eucharist.

Filmed at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, this 10th anniversary edition of A Biblical Walk Through the Mass is newly revised and updated.

Registration is $40 per person including materials. This study begins Thursday October 19 through until Thursday November 16 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. in the parish hall.

As a follow up to Archbishop Leo’s Stewardship Sunday homily, I am most grateful to all of you who are already involved in one or more of our 30 ministries here at the parish…we are greatly blessed to have such involvement!

While we will not have a full-scale Ministry Fair in October as we did last year, we will have a Coffee Sunday in the hall after each mass on the weekend of October 14/15.   On that weekend we will invite you to consider offering your gifts and charisms through one of our parish ministries, especially the following ministries who will have displays in the parish hall that weekend:  Altar Servers, Catholic Women’s League, Coffee Sunday, Hospitality, and the Knights of Columbus.
